✒️E.V.Ramasamy popularly known as Thanthai Periyar (Respected Elder) was born on 17th September 1879 in Erode district. He was the founder of the Dravidian Movement. He is not only followed the principles of Gandhiji but also exemplified them to others. He also staged pickets against merchants selling foreign cloth. He successfully conducted anti-Hindi protest, toddy shop protest, Vaikam protest. Conducted mixed marriages and widow remarriages. A staunch foe of ignorance, superstition and meaningless formalities, he is variously known as the wise man, Vaikam warrior and Thanthai Periyar. His Self-Respect Movement aimed to 'remove superstitions among the people'. Thanthai Periyar, Sculptor of Reason, Key to the Lock of Knowledge, World's Greatest Thinker and Scholar of Immortal History, was passed away on 24th December 1973.
