Louis Braille - Educator

āœ’ļøLouis Braille was born on 4th January 1809 in France. His birthday is observed as International Braille DayLouis lost the silky vision in his eye when he was three years old playing in his fatherā€™s workshop. He then developed sympathetic eye disease in another eye and lost his sight. Although he lacked visual acuity, he had a keen sense of comprehension. So in 1819 Braille was inducted into the Institute for the Blind. Charles Barbier, a retired captain in the French army, visited the Louis Study Institute and explained how to write information (night writing) without using any light. It is a method of exchanging thoughts by rubbing paper with fingers. Braille learned this new method and made some improvements in it. Finally he developed a Braille system for counting points and understanding letters. The first book on Braille was published in the late 1820s. But recognition for that was not available then. It was at the 1932 International Conference that the Braille system was officially recognized. He was died 6th January 1852.
