The National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992 :
- It was enacted on 17th may 1992 and came into force on 17th may 1993, to constitute a National Commission for Minorities and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
- The Government of India has declared six religions namely, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis (Zoroastrian) and Jain as religious minorities in India.
உலக தொலைத்தொடர்பு தினம் - World Telecommunications Day (This day is created to celebrate achievements and success of the world communications industry):
- உலகில் மிக வேகமாக வளர்ந்துவரும் துறைகளில் தொலைத்தொடர்பு துறையும் ஒன்றாகும். தகவல் தொடர்புக்கென முதன்முதலாக 1865ஆம் ஆண்டு மே 17ஆம் தேதி அன்று பாரிசில் பன்னாட்டு தொலைத்தொடர்பு ஒன்றியம் நிறுவப்பட்டது.
- பின்பு, உலக தொலைத்தொடர்பு சங்கம் எனப் பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்யப்பட்டது. இச்சங்கம் துவங்கப்பட்டதன் நினைவாக ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் மே 17ஆம் தேதி இத்தினம் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
- இணையம் மற்றும் புதிய தொலைத்தொடர்பு தொழில்நுட்பங்களை பாதுகாப்பாக பயன்படுத்துவது குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்தும் வகையில் உலக தொலைத்தொடர்பு தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
- மேலும், இச்சங்கம் உலகம் முழுவதும் தொலைத்தொடர்பை ஏற்படுத்தி, உலக மக்களிடம் ஒரு பிணைப்பை உருவாக்கியுள்ளது.
உலக உயர் இரத்த அழுத்த தினம் - World Hypertension Day (This day is observed aims to raise awareness regarding high blood pressure and its harmful impact on human life):
- உலக சுகாதார நிறுவனம் கார்டியோவாஸ்குலர் நோயினால் (இருதய நோய்) ஏற்படும் இறப்பு விகிதத்திற்கான முக்கிய காரணமாக உயர் இரத்த அழுத்தத்தைக் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறது.
- உலகத்தில் உயர் இரத்த அழுத்தம் உள்ள மக்களில், 50 சதவிகிதத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்டவர்கள் தங்களுடைய நிலை குறித்து அறியாதவர்களாக இருக்கின்றனர். உயர் இரத்த அழுத்தம் இருப்பவர்களுக்கு மாரடைப்பு ஏற்படுகிறது.
- இது சம்பந்தமாக விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தவே, உலக சுகாதார நிறுவனம் உயர் இரத்த அழுத்தம் குறித்து 2005ஆம் ஆண்டில் உலகளாவிய விழிப்புணர்வு பிரச்சாரத்தைத் தொடங்கியது என்பதுடன் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் மே 17ஆம் தேதியை உலக உயர் இரத்த அழுத்த தினமாக அறிவித்திருக்கிறது.

எட்வர்டு ஜென்னர் - Edward Jenner - British Physician (Scientist who created the smallpox vaccine, the world's first vaccine) :
✒️Edward Jenner, who discovered the vaccine against smallpox, was born on May 17, 1749 in Berkeley, England. In 1765, John Fewster, a doctor, wrote an article stating that people with cow-pox do not get smallpox and sent it to the London Medical College. Then he researched for 20 years with the determination to find a vaccine for smallpox. He proved that if cowpox germs were softened and injected into a person's body, he could not get smallpox. He gave free measles injections to the poor and needy. Jenner, a great lover of nature and humanity and a protector of millions of lives, died on January 26, 1823. - பெரியம்மை நோய்க்கு தடுப்பு மருந்தை கண்டுபிடித்த எட்வர்ட் ஜென்னர் 1749ஆம் ஆண்டு மே 17ஆம் தேதி இங்கிலாந்தின் பெர்க்லே நகரில் பிறந்தார்.
- 1765ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜான் ஃபியூஸ்டர் என்ற மருத்துவர் கவ் பாக்ஸ் (Cow-Pox) நோய் உள்ளவர்களுக்கு பெரியம்மை வராது என்ற கட்டுரை எழுதி லண்டன் மருத்துவக் கழகத்திற்கு அனுப்பினார்.
- பிறகு இவர் பெரியம்மைக்கு தடுப்பு மருந்து கண்டுபிடித்தே தீர வேண்டும் என்ற உறுதியுடன் 20 ஆண்டுகாலம் ஆராய்ச்சி மேற்கொண்டார்.
- பின்பு கவ் பாக்ஸ் கிருமிகளை மென்மைப்படுத்தி ஊசிமூலம் ஒருவரது உடலில் செலுத்தினால் அவரை பெரியம்மை தாக்காது என்பதை நிரூபித்தார். ஏழை, எளியவர்களுக்கு இலவசமாக அம்மை ஊசி போட்டார்.
- இயற்கையையும், மனிதகுலத்தையும் அளவுகடந்து நேசித்த மற்றும் கோடிக்கணக்கான உயிர்களைக் காத்தவருமான ஜென்னர் 1823ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 26ந் தேதி மறைந்தார்.

1897ஆம் ஆண்டு மே 17ஆம் தேதி இந்தி இலக்கியத்திற்கு புதுவடிவம் கொடுத்த தீரேந்திர வர்மா உத்தரப்பிரதேசத்தின் பரேலியில் பிறந்தார் - Dhirendra Verma was born on May 17, 1897 in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, who reshaped Hindi literature.
