The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 :

✒️The PWDVA was passed on 13 September 2005 and came into force on 26 October 2006. It was enacted to protect women from domestic violence, not only from physical violence but also from other forms of violence such as emotional/verbal, sexual and economic abuse.


Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi - Independence Movement Activist

கணேஷ் சங்கர் வித்யார்த்தி - Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Journalist, Independence Movement Activist :

✒️Indian freedom fighter and journalist Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi was born on 26th October, 1890 in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He has been reading books of world famous authors since his childhood and wrote his first book 'Hamari Atmogsargart' at the age of 16. He was interested in politics when he met Gandhiji for the first time in 1916 and joined the national movement. He created awareness among the people by writing in his journals about freedom struggle, socio-economic revolution, farmers, caste and religious problems. He served as a member of the United Provinces Legislative council from 1925-29. He died on March 25, 1931, who waged an uprising using writing as a weapon.

  • விடுதலைப் போராட்ட வீரரும், இந்திய பத்திரிக்கையாளருமான கணேஷ் சங்கர் வித்யார்த்தி 1890ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 26ஆம் தேதி உத்தரப்பிரதேச மாநிலத்தில் பிறந்தார்.

  • இவர் சிறுவயதிலிருந்தே உலக புகழ்பெற்ற எழுத்தாளர்களின் நூல்களைப் படித்து வந்தவர், 'ஹமாரி ஆத்மோசர்கார்த்" என்ற தனது முதல் நூலை 16 வயதில் எழுதினார்.

  • அரசியலில் ஆர்வம் கொண்ட இவர் காந்திஜியை முதன்முறையாக 1916ஆம் ஆண்டு சந்தித்ததும், தேசிய இயக்கத்தில் தன்னை இணைத்துக்கொண்டார்.

  • விடுதலைப் போராட்டம், சமூகப் பொருளாதார புரட்சி, விவசாயிகள், ஜாதி, மதப் பிரச்சனைகள் குறித்து தனது இதழ்களில் எழுதி மக்களிடையே விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தினார்.

  • 1925-29 வரை ஐக்கிய மாகாணங்களின் சட்ட மேலவை உறுப்பினராக பணியாற்றினார். எழுத்தையே ஆயுதமாக்கி எழுச்சிப் போராட்டம் நடத்திய இவர் 1931ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்ச் 25ந் தேதி மறைந்தார்.

🌟 1979ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் மாதம் 26 ஆம் தேதி, தென் கொரிய ஜனாதிபதி பார்க் சுங் ஹீ, அவரது  நீண்ட நாள் நண்பரும் கொரிய மத்திய புலனாய்வு அமைப்பின் தலைவரான கிம் ஜே கியூவால் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். அதற்காக அவருக்கு மரண தண்டனை விதிக்கப்பட்டது - On this 26th day of October 1979, South Korean President Park Chung Hee was assassinated by his long-standing friend Kim Jae Kyu, head of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, who was sentenced to death for his actions.


🌟 1957ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 26ஆம் தேதி மருத்துவத்திற்கான நோபல் பரிசு பெற்ற முதல் அமெரிக்கப் பெண்மணி கெர்டி கோரி மறைந்தார் - Gerty Cori, the first American woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine, dies on October 26, 1957.


🌟 1947ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 26ஆம் தேதி முன்னாள் அமெரிக்க வெளியுறவுத்துறை அமைச்சரான ஹிலாரி கிளிண்டன் அமெரிக்காவில் இலினாய்ஸ் என்ற இடத்தில் பிறந்தார் - Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was born on October 26, 1947, in Illinois, United States.


🌟 1947ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 26ஆம் தேதி காஷ்மீர் மகாராஜா இந்தியாவுடன் காஷ்மீரை இணைக்கச் சம்மதித்தார் - On October 26, 1947, the Maharaja of Kashmir agreed to annex Kashmir to India.

Instrument of Accession of Jammu and Kashmir state to the Union of India - a brief overview :

  • Instrument of Accession is a legal document executed by Maharaja Hari Singh, ruler of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir with the then Governor-General of India, Lord Mountbatten on 26 October 1947 under the provisions of the Indian Independence Act 1947, Maharaja Hari Singh agreed to accede to the Dominion of India.
  • According to the Indian Independence Act, 1947, British India was divided into India and Pakistan and the roughly 580 princely states that had signed subsidiary alliances with the British had their sovereignty restored to them.
  • These princely states were given the option to remain independent or to join the Dominion of India or Pakistan.
  • According to Section 6(a) of the Act, before joining India or Pakistan, these states had to sign an Instrument of Accession, in which they would specify the terms on which they were becoming part of the new dominions. 
  • This is what the Maharaja signed on October 26, 1947 - essentially, a treaty between the state of Jammu and Kashmir and India. Mountbatten accepted it on October 27, 1947.
  • Initially, the Maharaja had decided to remain independent and sign standstill instruments with India and Pakistan, but after tribesmen and army men from Pakistan invaded, he sought India’s help, which sought the accession of the state to the Dominion of India.
  • On August 5, 2019, the government of India revoked the special status granted under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
